SMED Construction planning and dispute resolution is a company formed by young qualified civil engineers who can help you if you are looking for expert opinion on construction programming & monitoring, project controls, extension of time claims, and dispute resolution.
SMED team understands the importance of doing proactive planning through continuous critical path monitoring and management throughout the project delivery phase. A well-developed comprehensive contract program can be used as a management and reporting tool that will enable the project team to always stay on track in the project.
SMED also specializes in preparing or reviewing extension of time claims which play a critical role for Contractors or the Engineer to the contract in determining who is entitled and who is not. This requires good problem-solving skills and hands-on expertise in programming and day-to-day construction activities to arrive at a conclusion.

Sumitha has a bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering (NZQA level 7) and over 11 years of experience as a planner/delay analyst in the construction industry. She has gained invaluable experience both in New Zealand and overseas in preparing tender/ comprehensive construction programmes, valuating EOT claims and solving contractual matters. She is also well verse in techniques like resource loaded and cost loaded programmes and tower crane hook time analysis.
She also stands out by her knowledge in EOT claim analysis techniques like Impacted As-planned, As-planned vs As-built, Collapse as-built, Time impact analysis and Time slice window analysis. Sumitha has great attention to details with a can‐do attitude which adds great value to any task she is assigned to

A project without a construction baseline programme is as good as driving blind. Currently, even in 2023, the construction industry in New Zealand has a long way to go when it comes to understanding the importance of planning and scheduling. Let’s face it, most Project Manager’s, and decision makers of multi-million-dollar projects in New Zealand have no clue as to how a programme is developed! That is a sad reality that needs to be addressed. The investors and stakeholders need to be educated about the inefficiencies and wastages the industry is facing due to lack of understanding of planning.
